Dear Friends,

I always thank God for all of you, mentioning you in my prayer.  I continually remember before our God your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.  (1 Thessalonians 1:2-3)

I am very thankful that we have worked, labored, and endured together at Bowmansville United Methodist Church throughout the year, but what I appreciate more is that we have done it out of our faith, love, and hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.

What is done gets a different value depending upon why it is done.  If all the fruits are produced out of worldly point of view, then they have only worldly value, but if they are produced out of godly point of view then they come to have godly value too.   So we may ask whether we have had the right motive when we did what we did.

Why did you do what you did?  Paul answered, “For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died.  And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.” (2 Corinthians 5:14-15)

It is my hope and prayer that our motivation of living the Christian life is the compelling force of Christ’s love.  This new motive will change your life.  “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” (1 Corinthians 5:17)  May God bless all of us that we may find more compelling force of Christ’s love in our hearts!

Happy New Year, my friends!
