Cast Your Nets in Deep Water by Pastor Youngjae Jee

Often times we feel that nothing much has been done after all sweats and toils.  Wondering if we are doing it right or not, we have to call it a day.  Hoping that tomorrow will be better we have to head ourselves to home.  Another day begins, but ends with the same.  We are slowly going down and get weary by this same pattern of life.

This morning I hear Jesus’ voice while I have my quiet time: “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” (Luke 5:4)  He refers me to deep water where I can catch fish.  We may always have stayed only in shallow water where we cannot catch any significant size or number of fish.  Meaning of one’s life may be in this deep water where one never has been before.  In your spiritual journey, have you ever thrown your nets into deep water?  Where is the deep spot anyway?  Jesus is telling us to find somewhere deep in our lives and throw our nets to catch fish.

2000 years ago Simon listened to the same from Jesus and followed what he said.  The result was never imagined by Simon that his boat and even his friends were so filled with fish that they began to sink.  Grace is surely everywhere, but it may be hard to catch in shallow water.  We may need to listen to what Jesus said and go to the deep place in our everyday lives.

Summer may make you more drained and weary, but I hope all of us find such a deep place in our lives, cast our nets down, and catch fish enough to fill ours and others too. Amen!
