The UMW met Monday 11/15/10 for an evening of Fellowship, Program and refreshments.

After enjoying refreshments and signing cards, Kath presented a brief program focusing on hunger - global and local.  Included in the program were some sobering statistics including: 52% of all Americans will live in poverty sometime before they reach the age of 65.  $17,285 was the official 2009 poverty line in the U.S. for a family of 3.  $17,680 is the annual earnings for a worker employed full-time at minimum wage.  $34,400 is the amount a family of 3 (1 adult, 2 children) must earn to provide children with basic necessities - food, shelter, and adequate clothing.  2500 people in Western NY are officially homeless - more than 60% are women and children.  3000 children in Western NY "age out" of the foster care system annually.  Almost 90% will be living in poverty within 12 months.

After the program, a brief business meeting was held.

The Annual UMW Christmas Party was held on December 6, 2010 at the Red Mill Restaurant.  We had a wonderful dinner and time of fellowship.  Everyone was able to get there despite the annual UMW snowstorm....  Prayer Pals were revealed and gifts exchanged.  It seemed like everyone kept the secret this year, and all were surprised to learn who their Prayer Pal was in 2010.  After picking new Prayer Pals for 2011, we had many laughs with the annual White Elephant gift exchange.  I think Nancy W received the "best" White Elephants - ask her the next time you see her!  We were delighted that Pastor Nick and Carmen were able to join us for the evening.  Many thanks to Darlene and Milly for making all of the arrangements for the Christmas Party.

Our next meeting will be the 3rd Monday of March 2011 at 6:30.  Please join us.
